In all my time reading
comics and graphic novels and watching movies I have found Batman to be both
the most hardworking and driven comic book hero. Batman lives by the code to never kill another
human being and he hasn’t broken that code since his debut in 1939. His persistence and dedication to justice is
an inspiration to his fans and fellow superheroes.
As a child I was first introduced to Batman through the
1990’s animated series of the same name.
So, naturally, at the age of 8 I had my mom sew me a cape with the name
“Bat-Zach” on it and I spent my afternoons with a Batman mask and that cape on
pretending I was stopping the Joker from his evil plans. Most of my childhood was filled with Batman
action figures including the Batmobile from the 1989 movie “Batman”. Even after reading about and watching other
comic book heroes there has never been a doubt in my mind since I was a child
that Batman is the best of them all.
Although I have never actually stepped back and asked
myself “What would Batman do?”, I believe that growing up with Batman has aided
in instilling a sense of righteousness and a good judgment between what is
right and wrong. I feel now that in my
everyday life I have to the ability to make the right decisions when faced with
difficult problems. This is in no small
part due to my prolonged exposure to Batman.
Along with his undying will to uphold justice, the fact
that Batman has no actual “super” powers makes him not only the hardest
working, but the most relatable superhero.
I believe that Batman is a symbol of inspiration that will last through
the ages. I for one will probably be
reading about him until I draw my last breath.
